On June 24, 2025, Al-Futtaim Nigeria Limited formally signed a grant agreement with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) under the DARES Performance-Based Grant (PBG) initiative. The agreement covers the deployment of six isolated mini-grid projects across Kano State, with a combined installed capacity of 720 kilowatts peak (kWp) and 6,852 proposed connections targeting homes, businesses, schools, and healthcare facilities.

The agreement reflects both parties’ commitment to accelerating rural electrification, promoting clean energy adoption, and stimulating local economic development. The mini-grids will be strategically sited to serve off-grid communities, improving quality of life and unlocking new opportunities for income generation, education, and public health.

Al-Futtaim Nigeria Limited, a key player in Nigeria’s energy sector, reaffirmed its commitment to delivering sustainable and high-impact projects in line with national electrification goals. The deployment phase will commence immediately, with community engagement and technical assessments already underway in the selected sites.
